Accidental discoveries are a foundation of science. And Hydro Tasmania can now add a very tiny one to the list – tiny in size but not importance - after finding Beddomeia tumida at yingina / Great Lake – the first time the live snail has been recorded in the area since 1900.

Eel deaths in Tamar River

Hydro Tasmania was made aware earlier this month about a number of dead eels washed up on the banks of the Tamar River. At this time of year the short-finned eels migrate downstream as part of their long journey to the Coral Coast off northern Australia to spawn.

Further update on Basslink arrangements

On 10 February 2022 Hydro Tasmania terminated the Basslink Services Agreement with Basslink Pty Ltd (BPL). As there is no longer a contract in place between Hydro Tasmania and BPL in relation to inter-regional revenues or bidding of the link, Hydro Tasmania no longer has the ability to issue bidding instructions to BPL.

Hydro community grants supporting life-changing initiatives

Hydro Tasmania is launching the 6th year of our Community Grants Program. Smithton High School’s Life Lab was a delighted 2021 Hydro Tasmania community grant recipient, receiving $10,000 in funding, which supported expansion of the space to include an all-weather outdoor area and boundary fence, built by the students.
