Hydro Tasmania's highest priority is managing water storages, which will provide Tasmanian homes and businesses with a secure and reliable energy supply.
Due to an extremely dry 2022, Hydro Tasmania’s storages are lower than usual for this time of the year. Early last week, the total energy in storage dropped below the Prudent Storage Level.
Tasmania’s Energy Security Framework includes measures to monitor energy security during drier periods, including the High Reliability Level (HRL) and above that, the Prudent Storage Level (PSL).
Total energy in storage returned above the Prudent Storage Level last Tuesday, following increased rainfall across Hydro Tasmania’s catchments. The increase was reflected in today’s weekly report.
Generation Manager, Jack Penny, said the Framework was working exactly as it was intended.
“Tasmania’s energy position remains secure, and Hydro Tasmania is actively managing water storages,” Mr Penny said.
“It is completely normal for storages to move above and below the PSL during drier periods, and these fluctuations may continue over the coming weeks and months.”
