💡 Tarraleah Power Station Tours: Step back into the 1930s, wander through art-deco hallways and original control room, and experience the roar of the six mighty turbines! It’s a slice of Tasmanian history like no other. (Pro tip: These tours fill up quickly, so arrive early!)

Parking is easy-peasy inside Tarraleah Village – just follow the friendly volunteers in high-vis vests.
Spoiler alert: It’s very limited. Plan ahead and enjoy the digital detox.
We suggest fuelling up at Ouse (from Hobart) or Deloraine or Longford (from up North) before heading to Tarraleah!
Absolutely! From toddlers to teens (and big kids at heart), there’s something for everyone. Just note that children under 5 aren’t allowed on power station tours – but they’ll have plenty to keep them busy elsewhere.
Yes, we’ve got you covered with baby change facilities, quiet zones for some downtime, and accessible toilets.

Prepare to be wowed. Roaring turbines, art-deco vibes, and the hum of Tassie’s renewable superpower (hint hint… hydropower). Tours are self-guided, so take your time soaking it all in. Got questions? Hit up the Hydro Hub back at the village for all the answers.
Tarraleah Power Station is a live power station, which will be active on the day of the Open Day. For your safety, it is vital that you come prepared and follow all directions from Hydro Tasmania employees.
Please ensure that you:
If you are keen to tour Tarraleah Power Station, you will need to bring a long-sleeved shirt and long-trousers along with you, plus closed toe shoes. No thongs, please!
As the station will be live, we will provide you with a helmet, eye protection and ear protection, to ensure you are safe as you move through the station.
There will be several shuttle busses that can take you from the village to the power station and back!
If you have a pacemaker, unfortunately you are unable to enter the power station. The electro-magnetic fields may interfere with your device.
Children under the age of five years old also cannot join the tours.
Yes. Children under 5 years old cannot attend the power station tour.
There will also be a maximum capacity throughout the day of around 300 people, to ensure that we can keep everybody safe.
Yes, find a Hydro Tasmania volunteer on the day (we’ll be in high-vis!) and we can help you.
Unfortunately not. Come along and join the family fun at Tarraleah Village, and then make your way to the Power Station by one of our shuttle busses.
We cannot guarantee everybody a spot on our tours, with a maximum capacity of around 300 visitors on the day. Tours will be staggered throughout the day from 10am until 4pm.
Have you ever been to a rock concert? The sound of six turbines is loud, and you’ll feel is just as much as you can hear it. You will be provided with ear protection before entering the power station to keep your ears safe!
Yes, prams and strollers are welcome at the Village, but not inside the Power Station.
Yes! Bring your water bottles along on the day.
We will have outdoor furniture scattered around the lawns of Tarraleah, plus an indoor seating area inside the Tarraleah Hall.
Tarraleah Hall will become the ‘chill out zone’ for the event, where you can find seating, plus some colouring in for the little ones.
There will be hats and drink bottles for the young ones on offer!
In the event of a medical emergency, find a Hydro Tasmania volunteer (who will be dressed in high-vis!) immediately, and we can organise help for you. We will have several first-aid volunteers available, plus St John’s Ambulance present too!
Yes! If you have accessibility needs and would like to come to on the Power Station tour, please find one of our volunteers who can help you register on the day.
Our very own Battery Café and Highland Arms Restaurant will be open, serving small-bites through to a BBQ roast.
We will also be joined by some tasty local vendors:

🍴 Robbie’s Wood Fired Pizzas
🍴 Chillin’ Dory Desserts
🍴 Sweet and Coffee Van
You will need to purchase your own food and beverages from the above vendors however drinking water will be available for free. All activities, games and power station tours are of course free of charge!
All food vendors will accept cash and card on the day.
Yes, we will have a lost and found at Hydro HQ. Come and ask one of our volunteers if you have misplaced something!
Sorry, no pets allowed. Assistance or guide dogs are permitted.
Unfortunately not, as Tarraleah Village is currently occupied by our employees and contractors who are currently working on upgrades to civil assets at Lake King William!
The Hydro Tasmania team will be taking photos and videos on the day, which we will use for social media to celebrate the event! If you do not wish to have you or your children’s photos taken, reach out to any photographers on the day.
