Hydro Tasmania’s Victorian-based retail business Momentum Energy has delivered ahead of schedule on the State Government’s commitment to bring more than 70 jobs to Tasmania.
Hydro Tasmania Acting CEO Ian Brooksbank said that with nine new starters coming on board this week, the number of Momentum Energy staff at its Cambridge offices now sits at 92.
“The jump from 20 to 92 staff delivers on the State Government’s commitment to deliver more than 70 jobs and is the result of a well-planned transition in just under two years,” said Mr Brooksbank.
“The great news is that these are not just traditional call centre sales roles: they include jobs in areas such as customer service, retail IT, learning and development, people and culture, credit, operations and change management.
“These are sustainable, long-term jobs that are creating a thriving base for Momentum Energy’s Tasmanian operations.
“Momentum Energy is proud of our Tasmanian heritage and ownership and it’s very exciting to be able to deliver career opportunities to the people of Tasmania.”
To support the recruitment of a strong team, Momentum has invested around $200,000 on modernising the Cambridge office, including a major refit with electronic sit/stand desks and an increase in the total capacity of the call centre by 30 seats.
Mr Brooksbank said delivering on the Tasmanian jobs topped off a strong year for Momentum, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.
In the past financial year, Momentum Energy continued to grow by adding an additional 7000 customer sites. This growth was underpinned by an expansion into the Queensland electricity market and a shifting focus to business customers.
Mr Brooksbank said it was pleasing that Momentum Energy was able to maintain profitability despite the impacts of the pandemic, contributing to Hydro Tasmania’s strong dividend return to the people of Tasmania.
“The new Momentum Energy jobs at Cambridge and the business’ continuing profitability highlights the benefits to Tasmanians of Momentum being a successful mainland retail business.”
Momentum Energy is headquartered in Melbourne and has customers in Victoria, NSW, Queensland and South Australia.
