Not-for-profit groups supporting Tasmanian communities are being invited to seek a helping hand.
Applications are now open for the second annual round of Hydro Tasmania’s Community Grant Program.
Hydro Tasmania’s Community Co-ordinator, Kate Hickey, said the initiative provides at least six grants of up to $5,000 for non-profit organisations making a real difference in Tasmanian communities.
“Hydro Tasmania takes pride in supporting local communities wherever possible – whether by supporting people in need, sharing our skills and expertise, or helping out with community activities and events,” Ms Hickey said.
“Our employees have a strong community spirit, with more than a quarter volunteering in the community each year.
“It’s been inspiring to see the benefits of our 2017 grants, which have helped make seven Tasmanian communities safer, more connected and more empowered. I encourage community groups to get their application in for this year’s round,” she said.
Applications for Hydro Tasmania’s 2018 Community Grant Program opened on 1 February, and close at 5pm on 31 March. Grants will be awarded by 30 June. There’s more information at www.hydro.com.au/community.
In its inaugural year (2017), the program received a massive 196 applications from around Tasmania. Grants were awarded to seven recipients - Geeveston Community Centre, Coast FM in Wynyard, Rosebery Community House, Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWiA), Melythina Tiakana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation, Phoenix Community House on King Island, and Longford Men's Shed.
Hydro Tasmania actively supports Colony 47, Volunteering Tasmania, The Smith Family and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and sponsors a range of community events.
The business provides special water releases to support local, national and international events, as well as infrastructure like tracks, boat ramps, camping grounds, jetties and pontoons.
