Update on energy issues and effect of recent rainfall

1 February 2016

An update on the energy situation was provided on 1 February by Energy Minister Matthew Groom. Read the update.

Key points:

  • Work continues on restoring Basslink to service, with no change to the scheduled date of 19 March.
  • Recent rainfall has been helpful and water storage levels remain steady at 18.9 per cent.
  • The Tasmanian Government and Hydro Tasmania continue to work on appropriate contingencies.

Rainfall has caused a delay in work on a valve replacement project at Trevallyn Dam, near Launceston in Tasmania’s north. Heavy rains have caused the dam to spill. Prior to the spill, the worksite at the base of the dam was secured and is currently under water.

It’s expected water levels will subside over the coming week, and work on the valve replacement project will resume. Read more about the project here.
