Hydro Tasmania is proud to support the inaugural Tasmanian Volunteering Awards, launched today by the Premier, Will Hodgman.
“Volunteering impacts and enriches many aspects of daily life and we rely on volunteers for activities we not only enjoy, but depend on, including healthcare, community services, sport, the arts, tourism, education, training and emergency services ,” said Hydro Tasmania CEO Steve Davy.
“These awards recognise individuals who give their time willingly to the community and promote volunteering and the significant contribution it makes to the state.”
Hydro Tasmania is a corporate member of Volunteering Tasmania and has worked with the organisation since the inception of Hydro’s employee volunteering program in 2011.
“More than 25 per cent of Hydro Tasmania’s employees volunteer in the community each year through our Community Program, including through the provision of pro bono professional expertise,” Mr Davy said.
“The objective of our Community Program is to make a genuine difference in the communities in which we operate and encouraging our people to volunteer in the community does just that.”
There are nine categories in the Tasmanian Volunteering Awards, and Hydro Tasmania is the sponsor of The Excellence Award for best practice in the management of volunteers.
“It is important to recognise that thriving volunteers and volunteer programs don’t happen without a lot of work, collaboration and inspiration,” Mr Davy said.
“This award will recognise the people that create an environment where volunteering can flourish. I encourage people to nominate organisations that are doing exceptional work in this space – both to recognise their efforts, but because that recognition will help encourage others to strive for excellence.”
Nominations close on 4 March 2016, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in May. For more information, visit the Volunteering Tasmania website.
