Expediting return of Trent unit is the prudent course of action

27 January 2016

The Trent gas unit at the Tamar Valley Power Station was sent for repair under warranty in September last year and is currently undergoing service in Abu Dhabi.

Its return to Tasmania has been expedited and it will add another 58 MW at the Tamar Valley Power Station when it resumes operation in early April. Its likely return date to Tasmania is early March.

It is incorrect that the cost of return is $1 million. Hydro Tasmania would have faced costs for returning the unit following its repair; the additional cost for air freighting the unit is approximately $70 000.

Expediting its return is the prudent course of action to have access to the additional generation considering the unprecedented conditions we face.
