Energy update

An update on the energy supply situation was provided on 14 March by the Energy Minister Matthew Groom.

Key points:

  • There have been no material inflows into hydro catchments over the past week, and total energy in storage is now at 14.8%.
  • Basslink has advised that the interconnector has been cut, and will provide further updates on the repair of the cable over the coming week.
  • Hydro Tasmania has advised that it is on track to have 100MW of temporary diesel generation available by the end of March and 200MW by the end of April.
  • The temporary diesel at Catagunya Power Station is currently generating 9MW into the system and this will progressively increase to 24MW during the week. Work to roll out temporary diesel generation at Meadowbank Power Station, George Town substation, Port Latta substation and Tribute Power Station is on schedule.
