Basslink update and Government response

An update on the energy situation was provided on 12 February by Energy Minister Matthew Groom. This followed an update to the Government and Hydro Tasmania by Basslink Pty Ltd on the work to repair the Basslink cable. Read the updates:

Key points:

The Tasmanian Government is doing everything necessary to maintain energy security.

It has now moved to activate the next round of planned contingencies. These are:

  • Installing 100MW of containerised diesel generation to be able to generate by the end of March.
  • Plans are underway to secure an additional 100MW of containerised diesel generation to be installed by the end of April.
  • An additional 75MW of gas-fired generation will be in place at the Tamar Valley Power Station by the end of March/early April.
