A group of Hydro Tasmania employees has received well-earned recognition for their effort and innovation during the 2015/16 energy supply challenge.
On Friday, Hydro Tasmania’s Supplementary Generation project won the Construction / Engineering award at the Australian Institute of Project Management’s annual achievement awards.
In response to the 2015/16 energy supply challenge, the project team assembled and commissioned seven temporary diesel power stations in just four months, with a total installed capacity of 220 megawatts.
They performed under major time and media pressure, and overcame major logistical challenges along the way. Good communication was essential, along with strong collaboration with contractors, suppliers, TasNetworks, local Councils, and government agencies like the EPA.
The team’s decisive, round-the-clock efforts ensured Tasmania had enough back-up power to have maintained supply in the event of another mishap (eg. the loss of a conventional hydropower station).
Having won the Tasmanian award, Hydro Tasmania’s Supplementary Generation project is now in contention for the National award in this category, in late October.
Ends.
